GEORGE TOWN: Police should reopen investigations into the statutory declaration made by former Bank Negara assistant governor, Datuk Abdul Murad Khalid, alleging that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had a war chest amounting to RM3bil.
Former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Nor, in making the call, said the move was to be expected should police decide to proceed with the investigations into private investigator P. Balasubramaniam’s first statutory declaration that had been retracted.
He said police should, by right, reopen investigations into the statutory declaration by the former Bank Negara deputy governor in 1998 that was also retracted.
“The RM3bil war chest is a serious allegation and it is only fair that the police look into Abdul Murad’s statutory declaration,” he said after meeting Umno branch leaders on Saturday night.
Ezam, who was Anwar’s political secretary when he was Deputy Prime Minister, dismissed the possibility that the de facto leader of PKR could convince 30 Barisan Nasional MPs to leave the coalition and join Pakatan Rakyat member parties.
“It is just a political gimmick and Anwar himself knows that it is impossible,” he said.
He also repeated the reasons why he left PKR saying that Anwar’s move to abolish the New Economic Plan would affect the Malays long term.
“That was when I told myself that it was time for me to leave PKR struggles for the sake of keadilan (justice),” he said.
Former PKR Permatang Pauh division head, Anuar Shaari, said that Anwar was not fighting for keadilan but for himself to achieve his dream of becoming Prime Minister.
“He is willing to do anything to achieve his dream, even if it were to upset the professionals including the police and doctors when their credibility is questioned,” Anuar said.
