KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s unopposed win in the Umno presidential elections proves that the transition plan has been accepted, party vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

He said it also indicated strong unity within Umno.

“We have always believed from the very beginning that he will be given the fullest endorsement by members. This has been proven too,” he said when asked to comment on Najib, now the Umno deputy president, winning the top post uncontested.

“I think it shows the acceptance of the transition plan,” he said.
“That it is very evident by massive support with exception of one division. I think that indicates very strong unity within Umno itself.”

Muhyiddin said he hoped with the strong endorsement, Najib would not only take over the party but also the Government and take the nation forward.
“We have very high expectations of his leadership but I believe he’s the best person to lead the party and the Government.”

On Sunday, Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Shafie Mohd Apdal said Najib’s win showed grassroots members had spoken and that the transition plan was going as planned.
Umno members, he said, were wise to only choose one person for the top post as party president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wanted to prevent splits within the party by having the transition plan.

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said Najib’s win showed his popularity at ground level.
“This will give him more opportunity to concentrate on further developing and uniting the country. MIC will work with him,” he added.

Kemenangan yang membawa makna di mana ahli-ahli parti yakin dengan kepimpinan Datuk Seri..dan juga pelan pengagihan kuasa yang dilakukan oleh PAK LAH, pemimpin yang kita hormati dan sanjungi.
