RTM2 MULLING OVER NEW MANDARIN TALKSHOW

NSTP 27/11/08

The Information Ministry plans to air on RTM2 a similar Mandarin talk shows as the 'What Say You' programme has been shelved due to a decreasing number of viewers, said its minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said the decision would depend on public feedback on the show that was shelved together with two other programmes.

"We still have one and a half months to receive feedback on the programme," he said, adding that the programme would be under a different title.

RTM is currently undergoing a restructuring process and would be rolling out new programmes next year, he added.

Ahmad Shabery had earlier said that "what Say You" aired at 7pm every Sunday ranked 331 with only 170,000 viewers.

Speaking to reporters after receiving a memorandum presented to him by 300 Chinese youth non-governmental organizations on the shelving of the talk show, he urged people not to politicize the issue.

Malacca state executive council member Datuk Gan Tian Loo, who is also president of Persatuan Belia Xiang Lian Malaysia, presented the memorandum to Ahmad Shabery at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

The mandarin talk show is a good channel to explain the government policy to chinese community. How ever it's better to extend the showing times and also to allowed public comments thru phone calls..
