GUS DUR IS PLAYING WITH FIRE IN MALAYSIA

By: Pemikir Negara

The recent visit to Kuala Lumpur by Gus Dur ex-president of Indonesia is most unwelcomed at this juncture. It was in bad taste for Gus Dur to do this especially when Malaysia and Indonesia are at the best of relations. As an ex-leader of Indonesia, he should not succumb to the lure of Anwar Ibrahim, a person much disliked by majority Muslims in Malaysia. Even the Chinese and the Indians, Christians, Hindus are dejected by the immoral activities of Anwar Ibrahim who is dreaming to be a Prime Minister.

Gus Dur should remain in Jakarta and mind his own business. He should concentrate on his party and try to improve the economy of the people of Indonesia. As a muslim and ulamak, Gus Dur can play important role to champion the good cause of Islam in the region.

Unfortunately, Gus Dur is blind to many things and that makes him easy prey for people and countries which want to have their foot in Indonesia and other muslim countries, including Malaysia. Washington had a field day when Gus Dur was the president. The IMF or World Bank was on the buying spree trying to take over Indonesian national assets, which were on the verge of bankruptcy.

Gus Dur also established contacts and networks with Israel through MOSSAD, an Israeli espionage outfit based in Singapore, Bangkok, Colombo, Yangon, Manila, Papua New Gunea. Gus Dur proclaimed that he was sent by God to champion Islam and also to resolve the Palestinian problem. A senior minister from Zionist Israel visited Jakarta to discuss matters of mutual interest. A MOSSAD office was set up undercover in Jakarta to fulfill the requirements of Gus Dur. This blatant act by Gus Dur came to naught and ultimately he failed to extinguish the fire in Palestine. Some Arab leaders even condemned Gus Dur for not understanding the real issue in Palestine. Gus Dur wasted over USD 170 million going around the world to promote himself more rather than Islam or Palestine.

Gus Dur claiming to be a messiah, was able to lull the Indonesian population that his actions in Indonesia were blessed by Allah. The people believed him initially but finally realized that they were duped and short-changed by their leader, but then it was too late. The people suffered under him and life became more miserable.

Political observers felt that Gus Dur was literally blinded by his own ego and the people around him. It was unthinkable that Indonesia had chosen a blind man to lead them. It was a creative decision but this blind ex-president was more inspired by self interest, distortions and self deceptions causing untold sufferings to the people of Indonesia.

It is appropriate that Malaysia should protest over the insensitivity of Gus Dur towards the feelings of the leaders of Malaysia and also the Malaysians.
