After fifty years of Merdeka, the Malaysians should rejoice what Malaysia had achieved in all aspects to improve the quality of life of every Malaysian. August 31 1957 when, we became Independent from the British, all Malayans i.e. Malays, Indians and Chinese then were very united and placed total trust in YAM Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister.
Lately, there were lone voices urging that Malaysians should celebrate Independence Day on 16th September, which is the date when Malaysia was formed. These were the same archaic calls by opposition leaders who are short of ideas. They were using the 16th September issue to divide all Malaysians, especially those who are easy targets for them. Anwar Ibrahim too has been chattering about 16th September when he plans to become Prime Minister.
Observers feel that these calls are prematured at this time. The oppositions are playing to the gallery to instill wrongful messages meant to sow sense of disunity in Malaysia especially, Sabah and Sarawak. We cannot allow these political devils to undermine the minds of the citizens, if unchecked, can lead to instability in Malaysia.
Malaysians should not be easily duped by voices which preach disunity, disharmony and instability. The oppositions have bad commitments to society and their forte is best in creating uncertainty and schisms. Malaysia should continue to make 31 August as the day to celebrate her Independence.
