Batu Pahat Umno Youth take on Soi Lek

BATU PAHAT: MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek is feeling the heat in his backyard over the ketuanan Melayu (Malay supremacy) issue.

Batu Pahat Umno Youth chief Azizul Kamar Abd Rahman yesterday presented a memorandum to his MCA counterpart, Yeo Boon Kim, challenging the MCA divisional chief's views that the term was not relevant any more.

A group of Umno Youth members later lodged a police report over the statement.

Azizul Kamar said Dr Chua's statement could affect national unity. "We want Dr Chua to retract his statement and to understand the correct definition of the term, ketuanan Melayu."

He said Dr Chua had misunderstood the term to mean that the Malays were masters (tuan) in Malaysia when the term was actually a symbol of the sovereignty of the Malay rulers and the special position of the Malays.
"We hope Dr Chua will respond to our demands as soon as possible. As the chairman of Batu Pahat MCA division, he needs to preserve the relationship between the component parties here."

Copies of the memorandum were also sent to Batu Pahat Umno chief Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Johor Umno Youth chief Datuk Razali Ibrahim, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor and MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
